What Is Self Levelling Screed?

Self levelling screed, also called levelling compound or latex screed, is a thin, fluid layer poured over an existing floor. It flows out and settles flat, filling dips and hiding small imperfections so your new floor goes down perfectly.

It’s laid much thinner than a full screed, from 2mm up to 20mm, and flooring can usually go down after about 3 hours. It’s the go-to fix when the base is sound but not flat enough for modern floor finishes.

Benefits of Floor Levelling

A Perfectly Flat Finish

Essential for vinyl, LVT and large-format tiles, which show every bump.

Thin Build-Up

Corrects the floor without raising it noticeably or changing door heights.

Fast Turnaround

Flooring can usually go down about 3 hours after levelling.

Protects Your Flooring

A flat base stops tiles cracking and wood or vinyl lifting.

Floor Levelling Depths & Drying

Typical figures for a thin levelling application. Deeper dips use deep-fill products.

Our Floor Levelling Process

  1. Check the Floor

We measure how uneven the floor is and check the base is sound and dry.

  2. Prepare and Prime

The surface is cleaned, repaired where needed, and primed so the compound bonds.

  3. Pour and Spread

The compound is poured and spread to the right depth, then left to self-level.

  4. Ready for Flooring

We let you know when your flooring can go down.

Floor Levelling FAQs

Can you level an uneven floor without a full screed?

Yes. If the base is sound, a self-levelling compound of a few millimetres is usually enough to make it flat.

How thin can levelling compound go?

We lay levelling compound from 2mm up to 20mm thick. Deeper dips call for a screed.

How soon can I lay flooring?

Usually after about 3 hours. We’ll confirm based on the product and depth.
